Thankful for November
It's really hard to believe we're already in November! We're moving into the last two months of the year which means it is time to reflect on this year and to start planning for 2025! Each November I take the time each day to think about the things I'm most thankful for in my life. I should do better remembering that everyday, but like all of us; many days my busy life makes it too easy to think about just what we are dealing with today.
Cotton Picking
When I moved to Eastern Arkansas from California, one of the most interesting things I learned about what cotton. It was great to get to watch the process from land prep to picking in the fall each year. I never realized how many different strands of seed there were and how the yield could vary from farm to farm depending on many conditions including very localized weather.
I still enjoy the fall when the cotton is in bloom and the process starts of picking and baling the cotton. Cotton gins are still found in many parts of the south including South Carolina where I live now Remembering Norma
I posted a different angle of this shot over on Instagram today, this image gives a better overview of the entire monument. I love visiting old cemeteries and seeing the old monuments. Each of these markers remembers someone who lived a life and had loved ones. I'd love to know all their histories. I wonder how many of these families still live close enough to visit their ancestors final resting places?
Update from South Carolina
Personally we made it through Hurricane Helene pretty well, we lost power for about 12 hours and still don't have internet at home. Lots of folks are still without power almost a week after the storm. Lots of damage around the upstate and also even worse up in North Carolina. Driving to the office, there are lots of trees still down and roads closed, but it is slowly progressing. We are thankful for the tireless work of the line-workers, emergency personal, volunteers and the community for the way everyone has come together to pull through this and help their neighbors. Keep everyone in your thoughts!
Fallen - Edisto Island SC
There was something captivating about this old shell I found walking the beach on Edisto Island. I really loved the weathering and decay and how the shadows played against the form. Sometimes lowering the camera angle is what it takes to change the perspective of the shot to better capture the beauty of nature. Taking a slow walk in nature will bring many treasures to light, if you just take the time to look.
